Many children suffer large gaps in their studies after having cancer we want to help them bridge the gaps and make them more employable

Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research fund and manage research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death in children in the UK.
In the UK, over 20% of children diagnosed with cancer will not survive because treatment options for specific childhood cancers are limited. Of those who do survive 60% will develop life altering disabilities such as hearing loss, infertility, major organ & bone problems and even heart failure cause by the treatments used to save their lives. These disabilities can make it difficult for children to navigate life, and many can struggle with isolation, education and employment. Late effects can also be progressive and sadly, 25% of those diagnosed will not see their 30th birthday.

Children undergoing treatment for cancer often have gaps in their education. This can be due to going into hospital, the side effects of treatment, or generally not feeling well enough to fully take part in daily school life. This then has an impact further down the line when they start to look at writing their Curriculum Vitae and looking for employment.
We are crowdfunding with the help of the Aviva Community fund, to give these young people the skills and tools that will empower them when looking to gain employment in the future. We will look to do this by offering workshops where they will have a chance to interact with different businesses and ask questions they may have in a safe space. With the help of these businesses they will be able to write full and attractive CV'S so that they are able to get the jobs they want without their previous illnesses holding them back. We also will be working with businesses to help provide valuable work experience.
