Who are we?

Lazonby and District Swimming Pool is a great community asset serving not only Lazonby itself, but all of the surrounding villages in the Eden valley, and this year we are celebrating 60 years since its opening.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Make sure Lazonby Pool can be a great pool for the future after 60 years

To celebrate our 60 th year we are aiming to carry out a complete refurbishment of the pool. We hope to strip out the current pool lining and then carry out repairs to the pool surface. We are going to improve the quality of the pool water by installing a new surface filter system which is a requirement of all modern pools. The pool will then get a professional finish and we hope that this work will be completed by the new season.

How we’ll spend the money raised

A key issue is to ensure that the Pool remains in good condition so that it can continue to serve the community in the future. The interior surface of the pool, especially the bottom, has degraded to such an extent that it needs complete refurbishment. We have been carrying out interim, partial repairs and painting for several years now, but the life of these is limited, they are expensive, and the weather inevitably means that the windows of opportunity for them are short in the spring of each year, prior to opening at the start of May. The structure of the Pool itself is now in need of a complete overhaul with fundamental repairs to be carried out, in particular, the installation of a new surface covering, which would safeguard the Pool for many years to come.

When this project is carried out, we will also take the opportunity to bring the Pool's design up to date by installing surface level "skimmer" outlets to remove water more effectively to improve its quality for swimmers. We are also seeking funding from grants to support the project of refurbishment, so if these do not reach the necessary level, the donations will be used to improve the pool as much as possible.

Community impact

The Pool enables a wide range of users of all ages to swim and stay healthy. For example we provide 5 local schools with the ability to run swimming lessons and host events for a variety of local clubs and groups: These include Mencap, the local Scouts, Beavers and Cubs, church groups, as well as adult keep fit and water polo sessions. A very large number of volunteers look after the facilities and run the pool shop.
