Helperby & Brafferton Community Sports Hub Upgrade

Aim

To increase participation in sports and activities by creating a sports and activity community hub on the sports field.

Who are we? 

Helperby & Brafferton Sports Association are a registered charity founded in 2001 that manages the Helperby Sports Field and Pavillion, and enables the running of Helperby United Football Club and Helperby Cricket club, and any other events at the sports field including exercise clubs and junior sports.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are raising funds to renovate and extend our sports pavilion as we are aware it is becoming dilapidated and cannot be used by multiple groups within our community.

Our plan is to create a community sports and activity hub, which will help to:

• Increase access and usability for families, people with disabilities, older people
• Ensure girls and women have the same opportunity to play sport and be active at the field  
• Ensure local sport and activity for our growing population
• Bring the current aging facilities up to standard for the next 25 years 

There’s strong demand for outdoor sports. 170 people of all ages play sport or keep fit on the sports field regularly. Over 200 people completed our recent survey, with 100% saying improved facilities were needed.

How we'll spend the money raised

We have developed plans alongside Daniel Powell: Studio - Architects for the development of the sports pavilion. This will include: 

• Renovations to the two current changing room spaces
• A refurbished serving and seating area which is more comfortable and provides a better view for spectators who wish to remain inside by widening the main access doors to the pavilion.
• An extension to the building including:
  • A third, separate changing space for girls/women who play for mixed gender teams
  • New toilet/bathroom/changing facilities for all users
  • A new kitchen

We have already raised a significant proportion of the monies required for this work, and this crowdfunder will help us close the gap to the final estimated cost of the project. 

We have generously been awarded Sport England support, they will match every donation up to a maximum of £15,000.  This means that if we can raise £15,000, we will reach our £30,000 target.

There are three simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
