Help us raise £3,000 to secure our home and fund free family places at The Bird Box, a community space for young children and families.
The Bird Box is a small, community-led family centre for children aged 0–4 and their grown-ups in Whalley Range, Manchester.
Over the past six months, we’ve transformed an unused caretaker’s bungalow into a warm, creative, and nurturing space where families come to play, connect, and grow.
It’s become a lifeline for many, a place that supports wellbeing, creativity, and community.
Why We Need Your Help
We’re at a crucial moment...
To keep our doors open, we must sign a lease with the council, but the legal costs to do this are beyond what we can cover alone.
Without this, we risk losing our home.
What We’re Raising
We’re raising £3,000 to secure the future of The Bird Box:
Every donation brings us closer to securing our space and making sure no family is turned away because of money.
What Happens at The Bird Box
We run Montessori-inspired sessions designed to support parents and children from birth to preschool:
Nest – Nurturing new mums and their babies through calm, supportive sessions that build confidence and connection.
Hatchlings – Supporting babies on the move and their grown-ups as they explore, play, and grow together.
Fledglings – A preschool readiness programme helping toddlers and their grown-ups prepare for the next stage with curiosity and creativity.
Toddler Café – A welcoming drop-in providing free breakfasts for all toddlers.
At lunchtime, our community chef scheme invites a volunteer to cook a nutritious vegan meal each week — families enjoy lunch together and give a small donation if they’re able.
Toddler Soup – A fully funded cooking programme for toddlers and their grown-ups, building confidence and connection through food.
MAKE Space – A fully funded creative arts project for new mums and babies, offering time to make, reflect, and connect through art.
What Families Say
“Having group this morning put a real spring in my step for the whole day. I’ve been able to interact more intentionally with my baby.”
"As someone neurodiverse, I feel relieved to have a baby class to go to that does not feel overstimulating and therefore alienating"
"It's created a welcoming, safe space to make me feel a bit more like myself again"
