We are a community based group of volunteers that got together after the closure of the previous “Alford Valley Railway Company Limited”, with the drive to get our beloved community railway reopened and reinstated for people of all ages to enjoy.
In order to be able to reopen and reinstate the Alford Valley Community Railway we have several tasks we must achieve.
The first of these is to refurbish and restore the station building, to achieve this we require;
- A new PVC roof on that station canopy to replace the existing felt roof that’s not repairable and letting water into the building.
- Interior refurbishment due to water ingress into the station building. This will be replacing plasterboard and timber framing that the roof leak has caused to damage to.
- Timber repairs required to be carried out to exterior window frames and doors due to lack of maintenance and age. Due to the building not being painted as often as it should have been rot as started in some of the window cills on the station building.
- The station building will also require a new coat of paint to preserve it for years to come.
We have received funding through a grant to carry out repairs to the station building, but before we can use this money we must match the grant funding with funding raised by ourselves. The grant we received was for £5000 and this has to be used by March 2021 or we lose it and have to re apply for funding again. If we can match the grant funding we got with this crowdfunding we will be a massive step closer to making the station building watertight to let us continue with interior refurbishments.
