Aim

Help us replace temporary learning spaces with classrooms designed for a more resilient future.

After Hurricane Beryl in 2024 and Hurricane Melissa in 2025, supporters helped South Starz repair roofs and windows and create temporary classroom replacements. We are now raising £50,000 toward the construction of hurricane-resistant classrooms, subject to engineering advice, local approvals and final contractor quotations.

South Starz Academy has had to recover from two hurricanes in two consecutive years. Hurricane Beryl struck in 2024. Before recovery was complete, Hurricane Melissa caused further damage in 2025.

Generous supporters helped us repair the roofs and windows and put temporary classroom replacements in place. Their support meant children could continue learning. We are deeply grateful, but temporary spaces are not a suitable long-term answer.

We need classrooms built with resilience at the centre of the design. Our goal is to construct safer permanent learning spaces using professional engineering guidance, appropriate materials and construction methods suited to the local conditions in St. Elizabeth.

No building can honestly be promised as indestructible. What we can do is build more responsibly and improve the school's ability to withstand future severe weather. The final number, size and specification of classrooms will depend on site assessment, planning requirements and written supplier and contractor quotations.

A £50,000 campaign will create a substantial construction fund and allow CMT and South Starz to move from temporary replacement spaces toward properly designed classrooms for children aged 3 to 11.

We cannot control when another storm will come. With your help, we can be better prepared and reduce the risk of our children losing their learning space again.

Caribbean Movement Trust, UK Charity No. 1161474, will receive and administer donations for this campaign and work with South Starz Academy to direct funds toward the stated project. We will share progress updates and evidence of how donations are used. Proposed allocations may be adjusted following site assessments, local approvals and written supplier or contractor quotations. Any material changes will be explained to supporters.

Please help us move beyond temporary classrooms and build safer learning spaces for the future. Donate today and stand with the children of South Starz. If you cannot donate, sharing this campaign could help us reach a business, foundation or individual able to fund a major part of the build.
