Aim

We provide emergency food to those in crisis and we are a community hub for ALL local people seeking support and sustainable positive change

Who are we and what do we do?

We are a foodbank in Long Eaton, Sawley and Castle Donington and are part of the Trussell family of foodbanks but we are self-funding and a charity in our own right

We started our work in 2012 and with a fantastic team of volunteers and two part-time staff members, we support local people facing hardship with an emergency food parcel of three days of food.  In financial year 2025-2026 we have supported almost 2000 adults and 1000 children with emergency food.

But we are more than a food bank. We want to lift local people out of hardship beyond the three days of food. We want to make a lasting impact on their lives and be a hub for community support and connection. We want to help our community make sustainable positive change in their lives. We hope to see a day foodbanks are no longer needed.

For people with a food voucher, we have a dedicated Citizens Advice advisor working at our main sessions offering advice to maximise income and improve financial well-being. This has included helping to claim benefits and managing debt as well as other areas of support. This sort of financial empowerment lifts people out of poverty and away from needing our food parcels.

For our whole community we have a clothes bank, local information hub, warm space with a safe space to have a drink, biscuit and a chat with a volunteer to help with social isolation and freely available period products to fight period poverty. All of this is facilitated by an enthusiastic, friendly and hardworking team of volunteers.

Plus, we have guest agencies from helping people into work, support people in work, stop smoking, weight loss and health advice to energy saving solutions. Anyone can use these services – our door is open and we promise a warm welcome to all!

Why are we crowdfunding?

The cost of living is one of the reasons so many clients come to us, but we have seen it also affecting those who usually donate to us too.

We have seen the amount of food donated to us through our network of collection points diminish, we now receive so much less than we give out. We have also seen financial donations fall.

This has come at a time where running the foodbank is becoming increasingly expensive. The lower levels of financial donations mean we have less funds to cover core expenses such as room hire and running costs to help us distribute food. The lower levels of food donations mean we must buy in more and more food when we run low of some items.

We have generous people in our community who donate to us, and we know they give all they can, but we need to appeal for more help. Crowdfunder allows us to match fund, and this will make such a difference to help us keep supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

What will we do with your donation?

Our priority is keeping our Foodbank open and develop a space for the whole community to come for support, advice and friendship.

We need help with running costs and donations will contribute towards day-to-day running costs such as rent so we can continue to be there for our community.

Some funds raised will be used to purchase food for food parcels where there is a shortfall in donations.

This could be tinned food, jars, packets and UHT milk. Our parcels are designed to last three days and be nutritionally complete. We also offer gluten free foods and cater for dietary requirements, as well as preferences where possible.

Can you help us?

Please donate! Every amount, big or small helps us gets us closer to our goal. Every show of support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too, so please share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed in continuing to be a place that offers support, hope and positive sustainable change to the people in our community.
