We’re taking part in the National Emergencies Trust Local Action Fund. Donations to our project will be matched by the fund up to the value of £250 per donation to help us overcome the effects of the pandemic.
Please note only one donation per supporter will be matched by the National Emergencies Trust Local Action Fund.
We are a tiny not-for-profit theatre company, a group of freelancers loving theatre and community theatre projects. We are producing a new outside performance for audiences in North Norfolk and this year we want to take this show into local care homes.
Two actors will visit two homes a day, and spend time with the residents. They will perform the stories in a theatrical and accessible manner before enjoying a cup of tea and some social time with the audience. The whole experience should allow for meaningful engagement between the actors and the residents as well as high class entertainment.
The engagement period will be 1.5 hours - 2 hours, with travel and set up, it will be more like 3 hours per care home.
Over the course of four days each actor will visit 8 homes, in total 16 homes will be visited. Each show will be adapted for dementia audiences.
We understand that it is hard for care home residents to participate in activities outside of their residential homes. For some it is impossible. However, there is a wealth of evidence to say that if you bring activities into their homes, residents feel more engaged with their local community.
A report into activities and care home residents with dementia in 2014 found
The more cognitively and functionally dependent elders are, the more activities become critical to their lives. Activities most missed by elders with disabilities are often leisure activities. *2
The National Care Forum found The arts are a good way of strengthening the ties between the home and the surrounding community.
We are performing stories based on Norfolk myths and ghosts. We have ensured there is ample time for one-to-one chats and time to share stories after the performances. We believe that our performance will not only engage and entertain but stimulate a sharing of other stories from the residents. Stories they may have grown up with, giving us an opportunity to let residents educate us on stories we may never have heard before.
