Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue needs an ultrasound probe to scan hedgehogs checking for pregnancy and abdominal abnormalities.
Project by Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue
Extra donations will be used to fund the ongoing building of a purpose-built "hogspital" where we will be able to cater for Cornwall's hedgehogs on a much larger scale, with a dedicated veterinary room.
IMV Imaging are kindly offering us a heavily discounted veterinary ultrasound probe, we need to raise £3000 to purchase it. Having trialled using this probe in recent months it has been extremely valuable for identifying females which are pregnant, which then helps us to know which medications it is safe to give them. It also helps us to tailor their care and what accommodation they are in.
Use of the probe has enabled the immediate rerelease of several pregnant females who were out and about in the daytime (ordinarily hedgehogs out in the day is a worrying sign, but pregnant hedgehogs often emerge during the day to gather nesting materials). Our vet has also been using the probe during her weekly vet visits to identify abdominal abnormalities including tumours.
By helping us to purchase an ultrasound probe, you can help us to provide better care for pregnant hedgehogs, and those with abdominal abnormalities which would otherwise go undiagnosed.
