Aim

Mawgan Porth Life Saving Club is launching this crowdfunder to build a vital, permanent lifesaving clubhouse base on Mawgan Porth

Our Mission

Mawgan Porth Surf Life Saving Club exists to save lives, promote beach safety, provide lifeguard training, and foster a safe, inclusive environment for the local community and visitors alike. We are trying to raise £240,000 to build a life-saving clubhouse on the beach.

We are a registered charity and an affiliated club of Surf Life Saving GB, working to national standards while serving our local beach and community. Our volunteer members train regularly and give their time to help keep Mawgan Porth a safer place for everyone who enjoys the sea. We support the emergency services when RNLI lifeguards aren’t on duty. Lifeguards patrol Mawgan Porth seasonally from 10amto 6pm - but the beach doesn’t close when they go home. People still swim, surf and explore

We’re now at a pivotal moment. We've recently had the planning permission granted for our new clubhouse, and so are launching this crowdfunding campaign to help turn a long-held ambition into reality. We need YOUR help to get the building off the ground and provide beachgoers with a permanent, lifesaving base for our local beach.

Why a Clubhouse Is So Important

At present, the club operates without a dedicated beachfront facility. A purpose-built clubhouse will significantly strengthen our ability to deliver our mission.

The clubhouse will:

  • Provide a permanent, safe base for surf lifesaving and lifeguard training, aligned with Surf Life Saving GB standards
  • Enable secure, accessible storage for essential rescue and safety equipment
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive space for education, meetings and community activity
  • Support youth development and volunteer engagement, helping to train the next generation of lifesavers
  • Improve beach safety for both local residents and visitors, particularly during the busiest months

This project is about creating a lifesaving hub and community asset that will serve Mawgan Porth for decades to come.

Why It Matters More Than Ever

In August 2026 two girls were caught in a rip off Mawgan Porth beach. Our club chairman, Jeremy, was singing sea shanties at the Merrymoor when the alarm was raised. He borrowed a bystander’s board and paddled out through rough seas, reaching the girls “just in time” and keeping them afloat until the Coastguard arrived.

No clubhouse or equipment store on the beach. Just a volunteer who happened to be close enough - and fast enough.

That’s what your donation can help change. A new clubhouse means the people, equipment and resources needed to respond are right here on the beach

How the Funds Will Be Used

We are aiming to raise £240,000 to support:

- Construction of the clubhouse
- Utilities and internal fit-out for training and community use
- Secure storage and facilities for lifesaving equipment
- A resilient, long-term base that supports the club’s charitable work

Every donation, large or small, directly supports beach safety, training and community wellbeing. If everyone can give just £5 (or more if you can afford it!) we'll be well on our way to getting the build underway and keeping beach goers safer for years to come.

Match Funding Opportunity

We are hopeful that funds raised through this crowdfunding campaign will unlock a match-funding opportunity, meaning that your donation could be doubled, significantly increasing its impact.

This makes every contribution even more powerful and helps us move closer to delivering a permanent base for lifesaving and community safety at Mawgan Porth.

A Major Milestone Achieved

Thanks to the incredible support of the local community, volunteers, local businesses and Cornwall Council, planning permission has now been granted for the clubhouse.

This marks a huge step forward. The next challenge is raising the funds to bring the project to life - and that’s where you can help.
