TPM - The POD Movement - has a proud, two-decade history of racing in Greenpower events for electric cars.
We believe passionately in developing young people's STEM skills and setting them up for successful careers through practical engagement - designing, building and racing electric powered cars in Greenpower F24 and F24+ events. Over the two decades the team has helped nearly 100 young people and produced 10 racing cars!
The team benefits from access to the local school's DT labs, however everything thing we do is through a parent-run volunteer group assisting our 11-18 year olds. We get no financial assistance beyond our own fundraising efforts. The pandemic has meant fundraising and securing sponsorship has been greatly hampered over the last couple of years, and our coffers are near empty. We could only keep the team going by building the car during 2020/21 and race at covid-safe events in late 2021 because a parent took it upon themselves to fund the endeavour for a short period, and build the car during lockdown in their garage at home.
Now we are back to 'normal' operations, this year we have taken on 4 new young people into the team and, in order to continue developing and racing, we urgently need funding for the following:
- replacements parts and materials for the car
- cover entry fees for events
- safety equipment for the drivers - helmets, overalls, etc
- cover fees for cost of testing at our local track (Castle Combe)
- costs associated with developing the next car
- transportation costs - our trailer needs major repair work
