Aim

Exeter University's Theatre with Teeth needs your help to take 'The Maiden's Toy' to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe!

Exeter University's most innovative theatre society, Theatre with Teeth, presents one of two Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows, 'The Maiden's Toy', performing at theSpace on the Mile from 15th-20th August. We aim to raise £700 to contribute to the costs of performing this show at the Festival.

What is 'The Maiden's Toy'?

'The Maiden's Toy' is an insidious piece of new-writing from the fiendish graduate mind of Olly Lawson, exploring the pursuit of perfection and the boundaries that must be crossed to achieve it. An ambitious director will leave no stone unturned in her production of a difficult and disturbing play. 'The Maiden's Toy' features a fast-moving account of the weeks leading up to the unveiling of her new production and focuses on the director's increasingly twisted relationship with her young leading male.

Lawson's show embodies Theatre with Teeth's commitment to experimentalism, promoting fresh talent, and producing bold new writing. The show's strength is foremost in Lawson's intelligent, lyrical script that creates big-scale excitement through small-scale incident. Atmospherically, the show evokes a raft of psychological thrillers from literature and cinema, notably Heller's 'Notes on a Scandal' and Aronofsky's 'Black Swan'. Under the new direction of Paige Evans, the cast and crew have been challenged in exciting ways to vividly realise the show's macabre undertones.

Our story thus far...

Having performed three sold-out preview performances in February at the Hole in the Wall, Exeter, the show has been revamped for its Edinburgh debut at theSpace on the Mile. Situated at the heart of the Edinburgh Festival on the Royal Mile, this venue has become known for its constant flow of awards and media attention. We are excited to perform in such a prestigious venue, and are currently rehearsing hard to make our show the best it can possibly be to showcase the talents of our cast and crew.
