Help the Feminist Library build its new home

Happy days! We were overjoyed to find that we hit the £40,000 mark on our crowdfunding campaign just hours before International Women's Day - no more perfect timing it could have happened! This was incredible news - right in time to get us in an excellent mood before IWD! But we still need to raise nearly £8,000 to reach the full budget for our move, and we need to do this by the end of March! Help us get to the end of this Women's History Month by making our crowdfunding campaign a total success - by spreading the word today! 

This IWD, we were also featured in Stylist magazine's (growing!) list of feminist bookshops, Bustle's guide to feminist must-reads and to feminist London in London Calling, as well as in the inaugural edition of the Feminist Libraries & Archives network's newsletter released that day!  

In other news from the most exciting International Women's Day weekend in the herstory of the Library...

THERE IS A FILM BEING MADE ABOUT THE NEW FEMINIST LIBRARY DESIGN!

Lucy Sanderson and Lilian Nejatpour are making a documentary film about the eventful move of the Feminist Library, giving voice to the designers behind the project through its historical and cultural journey, as well as the rest of the Feminist Library team. The documentary is produced by Tracy Bass with sound design by La Roux (Elly Jackson). 

Studio Lucy Sanderson became involved in the Feminist Library’s relocation in 2016 and in early 2017 joined forces with HI-VIS! to create the design team, when the Library was set to relocate to OKR Studios at The Livesey Estate on the Old Kent Road. They soon found the project also offered the opportunity for them to collaborate on the construction with friends at Power Project in their Peckham workshop for women and non-binary individuals. They see the move as "an opportunity for the Library to create an accessible, feminist public space that feels like a truly loving home for the collection of books and ephemera, as well as staff and visitors, entirely designed and built by women and non-binary individuals."

The first short edit of the film will be presented at the Library's AGM and 44th birthday on the 14th March. And don't forget, earlier that same, there will be a screening of animations made for the Library, about the women behind the Library, by some very talented LCC animation students. Join us - it should be a fun day! 

In even more, exciting news from our fabulous feminist design team in the last few days... 

Appointed as the project’s graphic designer in 2018, Anna Lincoln has decided to shared her designs for the new visual identity for the new Feminist Library on IWD! Anna takes inspiration for the new visual identity from the folded ribbons used to create the letters on FL's early protest banners. The font is highly functional but softened by the twisted ribbon effort.
