Help the Feminist Library build its new home

This has been another amazing week for the Feminist Library on Crowdfunder! We have reached nearly 50% of our target already, so we are well on track. In fact, if we keep going at this rate, we may be able to reach above our Crowdfunding target - which covers essential moving costs and fitting out of the space - and achieve more of the extra costs needed to create a dream Library. We would like to take this opportunity to extend another massive thanks to all our supporters, everyone who has helped us spread the word, and anyone who covered our story. 

In the second week of our crowdfunding campaign, our story has been covered by Community Southwark and in a really lovely blog post by SheCurates. We also got the news that our interview with Rosie from the Women’s Radio Station will air every day this week at 2:30pm! Tune in! 

We have also put up some posters around the Library, featuring our special ‘move’ dragon logo by our fab graphic designer Eva Megias, and we have printed some to spare - anyone who wants to help us spread the word further can pick one up at the Library!

In even more happy news, we have been gifted more new pieces for rewards by artists who support our project - this week we’re adding Helen Atkinson’s wonderful 'Path of Rebellion' prints from the recently opened Rebel Daughters’ Revolution exhibition organised by York Printmakers at the True Story cafe in York. This gift couldn’t have been more timely in more ways than one, with the centenary year slowly coming to an end (four unframed and one framed print available via our crowdfunder; linocut, 30 cm x 20 cm, 150 gsm acid-free paper, limited edition of 30). 

Helen says about her inspiration to donate her work to the Library: 

“I’d like to offer my print, ‘Path of rebellion’, to your cause. The print is my homage to the suffragettes who fought to give women an equal voice in 1918, whilst showing how far we still have to go - not least in the face of the dangerous political forces that are on the rise 100 years later. I know how incredibly important the Feminist Library is in keeping the suffragettes' vision alive.”

Also joining our generous donors this week is author Katherine Connelly who’s offered a signed copy of her book 'Sylvia Pankhurst: Suffragette, Socialist and Scourge of Empire' to support our crowdfunding campaign. Katherine will also be reading at our Winter Fayre, 8th December at the Library, where further copies of the book will be available. Save the date!

Katherine says about her inspiration for the book: 

"Sylvia Panhurst was one of the leading suffragettes. But what was particularly remarkable about Sylvia Pankhurst was that she tried to get working class women really central to that fight and struggling for their own liberation in a way that a lot of the suffragette movement did not do." 

We are extremely grateful to Helen, Katherine, and all the other amazing artists, writers and creative volunteers who have supported us by donating their work and time to our crowdfunding efforts - keep an eye out for more details on the others here.

Please continue spreading the word - we still have some 50% to go to cover the basic costs - Crowdfunder target - or some 150% to cover the full costs of the move. The Feminist Library team believes that, together, with our incredible volunteers, friends and supporters, we can do it!
