20th September 2019Upcoming Feminist Library stalls, exhibitions, workshops and more!
At the moment, the Library is still closed, in preparations for its big move to Peckham (news about that coming really soon!), but our events teams are still very busy, running workshops, stalls, exhibitions and more, around London and beyond! Sept and Oct seem to be very hot months in feminism, so there's loads coming up in the next few weeks, with something for everyone! Find out all the latest below.
This weekend, we will be in Peckham, at the Rye Links Festival. We will have a stall there. But we're also looking forward to the music and drinks later - and saying hello to as many people as we can, and getting to know our new local community!
'HerStories', our English language book club, which we launched in June, will be holding its October meetup on the 2nd - discussing Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge. This modern day classic, is an absolutely necessary exploration of what it is to be a person of colour in Britain today. You don't need to have finished the book! You can join us for a fun, friendly evening of excited book chat with like-minded people - whatever stage your reading is at!
The Feminist Library will also have a stall at the fresher's fair at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama two days later. Find out more here. And on the same weekend, we will be at 3 other events!
The Feminist Library Book Shop and Club de Lectura en Espanol (the Library’s Spanish Book Club) will be at The London Spanish Book & Zine Fair on 4th & 5th October. This event presents authors and publishers, showcasing artist’s books, zines and related material. Talks, workshops, activities and signings will take place throughout the fair. The London Spanish Book and Zine Fair is the first fair of its kind in the United Kingdom showcasing books and fanzines in Spanish. Feminist Library Book Stall will be there on both days and Feminist Library Spanish Book Club discussion and zine making event ‘Living in Diaspora’ from 3:30pm – 4:45pm on the Sat.
Last year, we have hosted Be Her Lead - a feminist teacher training project - for their initial workshops at the Library. This year, we are joining them at their first conference - how fab to see our friends grow! The Be Her Lead Conference aims to open up discussion about gender and education, and showcase fun and practical ways to support teenage girls with a day of active workshops, panel discussions and networking. The Feminist Library will be participating with a workshop on feminist education, based on literature from the Feminist Library, and a pop-up library.
Also on 5th Oct, New Suns, a feminist literary festival, returns to the Barbican for a second year, inviting audiences to explore new and continuing debates in feminist approaches to technology. The Library will yet again have a stall there, and we're very much looking forward to it, following our excellent experience last year!
On the 16th, we will be joining FWSA's (Feminist and Women's Studies Association) AGM and anniversary celebrations with a stall - perfect one for lovers of herstories. Check out more details and book your place here if you haven't yet!
Then on 13th Nov, at Pages Cheshire Street Bookshop, join Gail Chester & Magda Oldziejewska in conversation about the Feminist Library herstory & present before the Library moves to its new space in Peckham. On the same night, there will be an exhibition launch of gems from the Feminist Library posters collection! More details coming next week, we're still finalising the programme.
Feminist Library will have a workshop & a stall at the Feminism in Schools conference on 16th November, alongside many other fab feminist organisations doing great educational work. Find out more and book your place here.
