Dear Tchai-Ovna family, 

Tchai-Ovna needs your help.

It is with deep regret that due to the unprecedented problems caused by Coronavirus closed our doors 18th March until we are allowed to repoen. 

Tchai-Ovna, opened May 8th 2000, has organically evolved into what it is today in great part thanks to your love and support. It is you and all the countless people who have graced our rickety furniture and sipped our wonderful chai through the years that have made Tchai-Ovna such a special place – vibrant, welcoming, multi-cultural, a refuge in the city. As co-owner and founder I feel proud of what we have achieved and feel that all of us have brought something truly positive to many people’s lives. I feel privileged to be part of a great team of workers and part of a large loving family of Tchai-Ovna goers and enthusiasts. 

Unfortunately, the challenges of the coronavirus this has put the future of Tchai-Ovna at grave risk, including the jobs of the lovely Tchai-Ovniks that work here. The aim of this fund-raiser is to help the staff who are facing  hardship and uncertainty, and to help the business survive until such time as we can reopen. Whilst the recent government assistance offers some hope, the staff face reduced income and the business assistance is unfortunately not enough to cover the shortfall in wages. We are also concerned that the assistance we are entitled to is not enough to cover the fixed costs for an undetermined amount of time. 

 Any financial assistance you can give at this difficult time would be very much appreciated and with your help we all look forward coming back to work and welcome you back to our wee tea cave.
