Aim

My aim is to raise enough money to get out of homelessness, get myself employed and finally get myself somewhere that I can call home.

Hi, I am Sarah. 

I have spent many years of my life homeless, from sofa surfing, sleeping in the spare rooms of kind friends and even living in a tent for two years. Finding work has been difficult, with few jobs available and no permanent address to give to employers.  Raising money for a deposit and the first month rent is almost impossible as being homeless means I never know where I am sleeping that night, where my next meal could come from, and that makes saving impossible. 

One of my close friends recently moved to Orkney to begin studying and has told me how much work there is available, and how affordable it would be to live there. The islands are beautiful and peaceful, filled with so much history. 

I can get there no problem as the ferries are not that expensive, but finding somewhere to stay while I attend interviews and apply for work is the difficult part. Sleeping in a tent again isn't possible as Orkney has few trees to protect me from the wind, and keep me out of sight to keep me safe. My student friend lives in student housing, and for me to stay there would put them at risk of homelessness as well.

That is why I have started this Crowdfunder campaign, to try raise enough money to pay for a hostel for a month, or if I can raise enough put down the first month's rent and deposit for a flat.

Every bit helps get me closer to living a life where I have somewhere to call home. Even if you can't afford to donate anything, thank for you for taking the time to read this far.
