Help Rubicund relocate and grow!

Aim

We are moving, and we need your help to do it before the end of October!

Rubicund has been offered an exciting opportunity to move into the old Jam premises on the Old High Street. But it has come at a difficult time for the Rubicund team. The last year has been very challenging for health and private reasons, but we won't let that stop us! 

We already sorely miss Jam and we are fortunate to be able to continue Mandy's legacy. This move will allow us to grow and expand some of the community initiatives we have been developing over the last 6 and a half years: book launches, talks, screenings, debates... In the new premises we will do even more of this without having to rent alternative venues to host. The opportunity to increase the amount of educational and community building events we are currently able to offer is very exciting and we can't wait to start planning.

The new space will allow Rubicund to:

- Improve accessibility to welcome more of the community into the space. 

- Provide toilet facilities within the premises. 

- Host and curate evening events.

- Preserve and honour Jam's legacy by selling records!

The move will be expensive, and we need your help to make it a reality. Donations big and small will make this possible for us, as a basic move can cost over £8000. 

What will we use the money for?

- Rent overlap (up to £4777.90)

- Sanding and conditioning the floor (£120)

- DIY including: painting, decorating and furnishings (from £750)

- Purchasing stock (from £2000)

- Waste removal (£75/day)

- Contractors (from £300/day)

And other sneaky unexpected expenses! 

Rubicund will continue to offer a hanging coffee scheme (we serve around 2000 hanging coffees a year), pre-paid book vouchers, in-house library, raise funds for social initiatives and will still be a mutual aid drop-off point for the community. We aim to maintain and expand our ability to welcome everybody, no matter their funds. Rubicund will always be a safe space for marginalised communities wherever we are and we need help to continue this work.

We are incredibly thankful for your support over the years, if everyone who's enjoyed a drink or a book at Rubicund since we opened in 2020 made a donation, we'd make our target in no time! If donations go over the target, the extra funds will cover other needed expenses such contract transfers and loss of income through the moving process.
