Project by Refugees At Home
To keep pace with demand for our services we need to recruit up to 500 new hosts each year. Your support could help us reach people in key areas like cities and large towns.
It costs about £50 to recruit each new host. You could help us deliver a training package to support these new and existing hosts to address the increasing complexity of placements so that everyone has the very best experience possible.
By donating to Refugees at Home, you will be enabling us to keep pace with this unprecedented demand, helping as many refugees as possible find a suitable, welcoming home for as long as they need it.
Founded in 2016, we’ve provided nearly 400,000 nights of accommodation to vulnerable people all over the UK. People who may otherwise end up sleeping on park benches, night buses, or worse – often after escaping life-threatening situations in the country they were born in.
As a small team of fewer than 20, we’re doing as much as we can. All of our wonderful hosts and many of home visitors are still volunteers. So, as demand continues to rise, we’d really appreciate your support.
We want every refugee who needs a home to find one as soon as possible. But each home must be properly assessed before a placement can be made.
We conduct home visits, undertake assessments, and provide support to both refugees and hosts to make sure that they always find a warm welcome in a suitable home – all of this crucial work takes time and resources.
Refugees at Home was already supporting people from over 70 countries, but the war in Ukraine has meant an unprecedented number of applications, with demand for our service set to grow further throughout 2023 and into next year.
Every day, we see another story in the news about how dire conditions can be for refugees and asylum seekers who’ve recently arrived in the UK. These 51,000 people – including 8,000 from Afghanistan who were promised safety and evacuated almost two years ago – are often made to feel unwelcome, and housed in unsuitable accommodation. It is our hope that we can alleviate this situation and find suitable, friendly homes for all those seeking a safer new life in this country.
