Aim

WE are raising money for our campaign to get Priya Brown elected into Basingstoke Council in this year's local elections.

Priya Brown is WEP Basingstoke's local elections candidate, standing in Eastrop & Grove. Last year, Priya stood in the same ward and our campaign was a huge success. WE gained 16% of the vote despite not being able to canvass and campaign face to face due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year, the restrictions are lifted and we need your help to spread the word of equality around Eastrop & Grove!

The Women's Equality Party are a fresh, new, collaborative force in British politics, and the only party in the UK with equality at the forefront of everything WE do. WE unite people of all different backgrounds to fight for equality, so that everyone benefits. Priya isn't a politician - she's a mother, a

Priya is running for Basingstoke Council because WE know that fresh, innovative, and diverse voices are desperately needed in politics, as stale and mainstream voices are failing.

It's time for real progress. It's time for a truly fresh and independent voice and collaborative working in politics. It's time for equality to be put at the heart of local government. Because politics should be for everyone.

Any donations you are able to give to us today will make a huge difference in our fight for equality:

  • £10 will help pay for us to deliver leaflets to the to spread the word about WEP Basingstoke to the people of Eastrop & Grove.
  • £20 will help pay for digital adverts, meaning we can reach potential voters online.
  • £50 will help us send 1000 letters to the Eastrop & Grove community to tell them more about our campaign.

Priya is campaigning to:

End violence against women and girls

Last year, WE campaigned for Basingstoke and Deane Council to establish a White Ribbon Working Group with the aim of achieving White Ribbon accreditation for the Council. White Ribbon UK is the leading charity that works with men and boys to challenge those male cultures that lead to harassment, abuse and violence against women. Basingstoke Council have since made the pledge after listening to our proposal, but now it's time for them to take proper action against male violence. Accredited organisations are required to develop local action plans that engage with men and boys, raising awareness and changing culture - as The Women's Equality Party's local representative, Priya will work on the council to ensure real change is made to stop violence against women and girls.

Voice the community's concerns on environmental protection

WE wrote a plan for feminist-led climate action and as a result, Basingstoke and Deane Council amended their strategy to acknowledge and tackle societal injustice hand-in-hand with climate change. Priya will work with the people of Eastrop & Grove to ensure their concerns are being addressed about environmental protection, and ensure WEP Basingstoke's own climate proposal is used to tackle the climate crisis.

Value care work

We've seen the true value of care during the pandemic. However, those same services have had their funding reduced or withdrawn leaving them in crisis, particularly the childcare industry. Caring is essential, skilled and specialist work and it deserves to be valued.

This year, the local elections are a great opportunity for all to vote for equality and WE want your support to help us.

Stand with us to help elect Priya Brown to council, and help build back equal!

Thank you for your support.

The legal bit...

As we're a political party we're required to run permissibility checks on donations over £50. These will be completed as you make your donation and therefore we can't accept anonymous donations over £50.

If you give over £500 your details will appear in our election returns, and if you donate over £7,500 your name will appear on the Electoral Commission website.
