We're still collecting donations

On the 3rd January 2023 we'd raised £2,125 with 40 supporters in 69 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Allow us to introduce to you Pealie’s Barn which we believe is North Yorkshire's most unique music & arts venue. 1666708830_s+g-490_websize.jpg

The situation we currently find ourselves in...

In 2021, while setting up the venue and before any events took place, we spent months researching and contacting our local Council to ask for any help and advice to make sure we stuck to the rules at every step. As you can imagine we wanted to secure a long journey for the Barn.

Our local Council are aware that we want to set up a business on the site and they are very eager to see a valid planning application. Of course with such a large site and with the many surveys needed it is far from cheap for our business and it is something we have been working towards for the past 10 months. We employed a Planning Consultant less than a month after initial concerns were raised to find the best way forward for such a large site with so much potential. For the past year we have held events based on the understanding that annually we had 28 days of permitted use and we were working towards a Planning Application so we could eventually be a licensed premises. Unfortunately very recently we were told by the Council that the annual 28 day permitted use does not apply to us.

In order to place a valid Application we are now in the position that we can hold no more events at Pealie’s Barn until Planning Permission has been granted. The process is long and drawn out and it is not possible to organise all of the relevant surveys within the Council's requested timeframe. It will also actually cost us over £10,000! As a business that is not about profiteering but about bringing arts and culture to rural North Yorkshire this is very worrying as it does not even guarantee that the application will be granted.

A bit of history..

Nestled in the stunning and beautifully beating heart of North Yorkshire exists a small previously working farm that has recently been reimagined as a grass-roots music and arts venue.

The owner, Pealie himself, has a passion for the arts and has asked a group of young people who come from all backgrounds in the music and arts industry to help set up and manage the site. It isn’t very often that an individual would take their largest asset, the farm, and refuse wedding and residential developments to instead pursue a route that does not benefit him financially but benefits the local area and the people working directly for the venue. We are all very proud to be a part of North Yorkshire’s history and that our buildings have regained their original charm and characteristics whilst offering a space for everyone to come and enjoy a music and arts hub created in the heart of North Yorkshire.

How you can help..

We are asking for your support and guidance in making Pealie’s Barn possible. We understand that arts and culture are incredibly important and that the larger plan by North Yorkshire Council is to focus on the regeneration of live music and art. We feel we are a perfect example for a venue steeped in Yorkshire history and culture bringing arts and live music to the local area.

Here’s a few of the many positive things here at Pealie’s Barn that we feel fall in line with our local Council’s stated ethos:

  • Created a safe space for musicians and creatives of any age, from any background, to come and help regenerate music and the arts
  • Support other local small businesses by stocking their products in our Bar or our pizza oven and by holding craft markets
  • Creating jobs for the local area with a specific focus on young people
  • Huge passion for the environment with reusable products used where possible and reclaimed materials used to enhance and convert our very special buildings

Our goal here is to try and raise the funds required for our planning application by using any method we can. While we would have liked to avoid addressing this issue in such a public forum we are now required to exhaust every option possible to us. The team here at the Barn have all made large changes to their lives to dedicate their time to this wonderful place and are beyond determined to see it succeed.

Any and all support you can provide to us is monumentally appreciated and we’d be grateful for any amount of financial aid you can contribute. We understand thay costs are rising for all of us so if you can't even a name and email address as a recognition of support would make a huge difference.

A sincere thank you from all of us here at the Pealie’s Barn team, we hope we can still be here to serve you in the coming years and to nurture the talent of future generations.
