Please Help Us - to Help the NHS System, the healthcare, and the vulnerable - to Help You and Your Loved ones
The terrible new coronavirus Covid-19 is spreading all over the world. Each of us is experiencing a period of insecurity, restlessness, panic and anger. At the same time we have also seen the power of understanding, tolerance, trust and mutual encouragement. Generosity is a natural expression of our humanity.
The intention of our team "LIGHTup" established during this epidemic, is to give people hope by helping medical practices.
We are a spontaneously organised small team dedicated to public welfare in our spare time. Kindness brings us 6 strangers together. We are all Chinese who have worked and lived in the UK for more than ten years. We all have different professions and experiences. Some of us are CIPS certified purchasers who work for NHS suppliers, and have an understanding of the UK NHS supply chain and medical product qualification requirements. If we can raise funds, we are confident in procuring products as we have reliable and fully qualified suppliers. We also have rich project management professionals and experience. We have strong communication skills and can communicate with various departments of hospitals in an effective manner to ensure that materials can be purchased more timely, such that donations can be targeted to hospitals who urgently need the supplies. Together we have a high degree of credibility. We promise to collaborate together to encourage more people to contribute.
This kind of public welfare is a huge challenge for us without charitable experience, but we have been working hard to improve it. In this particular period, if you pay a little attention to the British media, it is not difficult to find that there are correspondingly serious medical supply shortages in British hospitals, especially those outside London.
Some people are questioning why we don’t directly donate money to the NHS. Due to the reduced availability of PPE, the price has increased more than ten fold, therefore the original NHS suppliers can’t source the established products to supply for the NHS. Various European countries need to be self-sufficient, and the United States also lacks PPE products. The only country that can supply is China. However, China's large qualified companies are too busy to receive orders, and the temporary qualification certificates obtained by small companies do not meet EU standards. Various countries are hijacking the supply chain.
The current situation is that the UK NHS may have funds to purchase, but do not have enough qualified suppliers. Burberry is making PPE right now, but their production capacity is also very low. Therefore, our LIGHTup team is committed to shortening the time and procedures from the purchase of medical supplies and transportation to the first-line medical staff. Through our efforts, we can find and collect available stocks and more quickly meet the requirements of the hospitals.
We are also committed to transparency, and will openly publish the amount of money raised, fund usage, the specific medical supplies purchased, and specific hospitals or departments we donate to. This will be published to a WeChat group and related website (coming soon). We welcome any reasonable suggestions or even doubts, but we hope that this will be constructive criticism, and we will not accept any aggressive verbal abuse or even malicious slander.
We believe that our little good deeds can give people warmth and hope.
We have launched a CrowdFunder project. The goal is £10,000 to help the dedicated NHS employees who are still working on the front line even though the conditions are severe.
The donated hospitals are as follows:
1. Royal Berkshire Hospital (Accepting PPE and face masks)
2. Royal Surrey County Hospital (Accepting aprons, FFP3 masks, gowns, gloves surgical masks, face visors)
3. Frimley hospital (accepting gloves, gowns, masks, visors / goggles, aprons)
4. Malzeard road medical centre, Luton (accepting anything like full sleeve aprons and protective glasses etc.)
We hope that everyone will support us according to the best of their capability. We definitely believe that if each of us can contribute a little bit, the result will be different.
The epidemic will eventually pass. When looking back at this life experience, we will feel great kindness and warmth amongst ourselves through making an effort to help others.
