If we overfund we plan to pay more to the musicians! After all, this story isn't about us, it's about saving the music.
Our initial target of £5000 will give a small amount of income to each musician – it will be enough for them to afford essential living costs during this time. If we raise more we will give it directly to the musicians to help for the future months where gigs are already being cancelled due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19.
Jacks is one of Méribel's premier après bars offering quality homemade food, a varied selection of drinks (including our own beer) and live music from the best musicians in the alps! But this story isn't about Jacks, it's about the incredibly talented musicians who travel to the alps from the UK year-after-year to perform in our venue and are now out of work.
On the evening of March 14, the French government announced that France would go into 'confinement' to help reduce the impact of COVID-19. At midnight on Saturday the 15th of March, Jacks – and all venues – closed doors until further notice.
As always, the safety of our staff, customers, musicians and our community is of the highest importance. Whilst we are confident that Jacks will return stronger than ever, the decision to close venues has left many musicians without an income and facing unpredictable futures.
Together we can help them.
When we began confinement Jacks hatched a plan that would keep musicians doing what they love – entertaining. Each evening a musician takes over the Jacks Facebook page and live-streams an après gig, we call it the Confinement Sessions. What we didn't expect was the level of interaction these gigs bring to the community – not just here in Méribel, but across the globe! Viewers have been joining the stream from France, the UK, Australia, America and many more countries.
The Confinement Sessions have become a daily dose of social activity, at a distance, and something that viewers and musicians alike look forward to.
Put simply: Without support during this time the musicians and the music will NOT survive.
We understand that many people are in similar situations, so we are asking those of you who can help – whether individually or as a business – to give generously to help secure the future of the many people who have brought music to our lives for so long.
All funds raised on this page will go directly to the musicians who continue to gig and share their love of music via live-stream on the Jacks Facebook page.
In return for your donation, you will receive incentives from Jacks that you can redeem when it best suits you (and once we are reopened!).
From the family at Jacks, including the musicians, thanks in advance for your support and generosity – especially as everyone is impacted by COVID-19. If you can't donate, please remember to tune into the Jacks Facebook page and enjoy the Confinement Sessions, a simple like shows us your support in this unusual time – just search for 'Jacks Bar Méribel' on Facebook.
With any luck, we'll see you at a gig in Jacks very soon. Until then stay safe, healthy and take care of each other.
