Help Mila Keep Living the Life He Deserves

Hi, I'm Dan, and this is Mila.

When I brought Mila home, I thought I was beginning a wonderful new chapter with a healthy puppy. Instead, within weeks, our lives changed completely.

Mila was born with megaoesophagus, a condition that means his oesophagus cannot move food and water into his stomach properly. Without constant management, food can come back up, leading to choking, malnutrition or life-threatening aspiration pneumonia.

Neither of us had any idea this battle was waiting for us.

Despite having pet insurance, we discovered that the surgery and much of his treatment weren't covered because the condition was classed as pre-existing. Overnight, I found myself facing thousands of pounds in veterinary bills while trying to do everything possible to keep my best friend alive.

Every day revolves around Mila.

His meals aren't simply poured into a bowl. Every mouthful has to be carefully prepared, monitored and fed in an upright position. Water has to be managed just as carefully. After every meal, I stay with him while gravity helps the food reach his stomach. My day is organised around feeding schedules, medication, observation and constantly watching for signs that something might be wrong.

It's exhausting, but he's worth every second.

The next step that could make a huge difference to Mila's life is a Bailey Chair.

A Bailey Chair is a specially designed feeding chair that holds dogs upright while they eat, allowing gravity to move food safely into the stomach. For dogs with megaoesophagus, it isn't a luxury—it's often one of the most effective ways of reducing regurgitation and helping prevent dangerous complications such as aspiration pneumonia.

Unfortunately, after the veterinary bills, I simply can't afford one.

I'm also living with the debt left behind by the treatment that insurance wouldn't cover, and despite working as hard as I can, I've reached the point where I need to ask for help.

Mila has no idea how much effort goes into keeping him alive. He simply greets every day with a wagging tail, trusting that I'll keep fighting for him.
