Approaching a milestone birthday always gives an opportunity to reflect and for me, as I embark on entering another decade, it always comes back to one thing. That in all my years of making music, the one thing I always wanted to do was make an album and I've never done this. Therefore, I want to mark this milestone birthday to do just that. To create and release my debut album. I've been involved in some amazing projects over the years. If you are reading this, it is likely that we probably first connected over music. Perhaps we went to a gig together, or I put your band on at one of my music nights or maybe we have even shared a stage ourselves. Whatever it is, if you were thinking of buying me a present or a drink for my birthday, I ask you to consider donating to this much needed studio time instead.
I was always an album girl. Some of my earliest memories of buying music are going to HMV and buying an album from my favourite artist on release day and getting home to read the liner notes and play it straight away. I always wanted to read the lyrics, see who produced it and appreciate the artwork. But the music industry is very different to that which existed when I was a teenager. Today it is very singles driven, which I feel loses that sense of listening to a body of work as a whole. That's why this project is primarily not for the music industry. In essence it's a passion project - to create art for art's sake. Though as I've got older I realise that is when we are able to make our most exciting, beautiful and truest art; when we are free to create regardless of other people's expectations or imposed limitations. Perhaps this comes with growing older too. Whatever it is I am here for it and it's now time for me to record this album. I have most of the songs ready to go. Some of which I have carried with me for a long time. Anyone who has seen me play in the last ten years, I always opened my set with 'Love Song' but to this day I've never recorded it in a studio. That's going to be the first song I record if I get to make this dream a reality. This album will reflect my life's work to date and it would mean the world to me for you to be part of that too.
Thanks for reading and anything you can give to this project, I am eternally grateful.
