Hi folks, I'm trying to raise funds to buy an electric wheelchair and hoping some of you can help.
I caught covid in the early days of the pandemic and unfortunately never recovered. I've also since discovered I've got an underlying genetic condition called hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which has been accelerated by the virus.
My mobility has gradually reduced and I now need a wheelchair when walking more than a short distance.
I'm eligible for a manual wheelchair on the NHS but because my disability is energy limiting in nature and self propelling is hard work, that doesn't help me much!
If you can walk a few steps then you're generally not eligible for an electric wheelchair on the NHS so I'm on my own trying to source one.
I'm well aware that everyone is struggling at the moment and have been really hesitant to ask for financial help. I've applied for a grant through a charitable nursing foundation and been offered some money towards the chair I'm trying to buy but I now need to raise the rest of the money in time to use the grant.
Thanks very much if you've taken the time to read this and if you're not able to help at the moment then I'd be really grateful if you could share this with people who know me and might be able to help.
At the moment I'm reliant on the help of family and my PAs to get to appointments and things and I'm hoping that this wheelchair would help me regain some independence.
