To help our squads travel to Orlando and compete in Varsity’s Dance Summit in Pom and Lyrical Contemporary.
by Jools McGill in Lanark, Scotland, United Kingdom
On Sunday 3rd of March 2019, Lightning Strikes, the competitive team associated with the Dance Rite Academy (based in Lanark), took park in Jamfest’s Northern Jam competition in Blackpool. Our squads did phenomenally well being crowned:
Mini Lyrical Champions
Mini Hip Hop Champions
Youth Pom Champions
Youth Lyrical Champions
Mini Pom 2nd
Youth Hip Hop 2nd
Senior Hip Hop 2nd
Junior Pom 4th
In addition, we were also crowned Youth Lyrical Grand Champions!
The following evening, we received the unbelievable and wonderful news that 5 of our squads had been granted bids to perform at The Summit World Championship in Orlando!
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the girls and after much deliberation, 2 of the squads have agreed and are committed to attend - Youth Pom and Youth Lyrical.
The 2 teams are made up of 15 girls aged 11-13 years of age and even being selected for this high profile world competition is the pinnacle of their dance careers to date.
This means that we have to fund flights, accommodation, registration fees, costumes, training kits etc with now less than 7 weeks until we depart on Thursday 2nd May.
We, as parents and coaches, are absolutely stretched outlaying a large amount of money for this unexpected trip and would ask you to please make any contribution you can to help our girls not only represent Lanark in this amazing opportunity but also make their dream come true!
Thank you so much
