Raising £10,000 to launch Bright Boroughs - a platform that bridges the gap with donors, children, and enrichment activities.
I grew up in a low-income family and know first hand how vital community support and enrichment opportunities are for children. I had access to grassroots football and martial arts which provided me with many transferable skills, which today I believe is a testament to me working for a large global bank with over a decades experience in relationship management and business development.
Too many children today, especially the 'missing middle' families - who are not wealthy enough for private clubs but not poor enough for government help - are being left behind.
I now fall into that gap! I earn enough to have disposable income, but with two daughters who have different interests, needs and ways they would like to express themselves freely - it's difficult to decide who benefits mostly. My eldest is currently taking her GCSEs and with the necessary cost of her being tutored means my youngest is likely to miss out on her dance classes.
Bright Boroughs is my solution, and will play as a solution to many other families: a charity that partners with schools to fund extracurricular activities, tutoring, mental health support, and digital skills training.
By raising, £10,000, we will build our platform, pilot in a couple of boroughs, gain charity status and, show how we can level the playing field for children everywhere.
Upon charity status, every £500 raised supports c. one child for a year. But, this is bigger than just the individual children. Stronger children means stronger schools, stronger communities, and a strong economy.
Every £1 invested in education returns £5–£7 to the economy through higher productivity, increased earnings, and lower public spending.
For 25 children supported in the first year, even a modest investment of £500 per child could yield £62,500–£87,500 in long-term economic returns.
Let's create children of our future to be more employable. Let's give them access to core transferable skills. Allow them to develop talents they would have not explored if only reliant on their parents' income. Let's support children with vocational courses away from the classroom and ensure our children are digitally savvy to aid the change in skilled roles. Together, we can ensure that children are sound of mind, with mental health support, so their attitude to learning is not compromised.
With your help, we can launch Bright Boroughs and start making futures brighter.
