On the 12th May 2020 we'd raised £927 with 20 supporters in 55 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Kaleyard Cook School is a social enterprise in Glasgow, based on the ethos that cooking from scratch can change people's lives. We support others to learn to cook, eat and share food together in order to beat social isolation or merely to improve their mental and physical well-being.
We recently moved to our permanent premises in Toryglen Community Base and our kitchen is a welcoming, cosy space with a friendly team that promotes integration and inclusion within our community. We offer free community cookery classes and welcome all.
As a new small non-profit, we have had to make an incredibly hard decision to close the cook school and postpone all the upcoming community cookery classes, masterclasses and catering for now. This is in keeping with government advice to avoid all non-essential social contact. We need to consider the health of the many vulnerable and older people we work with, our staff, volunteers and other members of the community here in Toryglen and beyond.
UPDATE - WE HAVE HAD TO CLOSE THE TORYGLEN COMMUNITY BASE KITCHEN BECAUSE WE WERE NOT GIVEN ANY RENT RELIEF OR RENT HOLIDAY AND WE HAVE OUTSTANDING RENT TO PAY THE CHARITY WE RENTED FROM, AND NO INCOME PRESNETLY - ANY DONATIONS WILL BE SO APPRECIATED.
All proceeds from our masterclasses and catering not only pay our staff, but also enables us to offer free cookery classes for many people of our community in our beautiful, clean and homely kitchen.
We just started to rent our new space with hopes of creating a wonderful place for our community but suddenly things seem so unpredictable and uncertain.
Catering cancellations and unavoidable masterclass cancellations have started to come in as all the decisive action again the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is taking place.
As a small independent community-focused organisation and social enterprise, we really believe that we not survive this without help and support.
We currently have no idea where we really go from here, but with even a little help from you we might at least be able to save our wonderful kitchen - to be able to make our rent next month. At least giving us a chance to come out the other side and be able to support our community with food and cookery skills once again.
To thank you for any support you're able to show us, we would like to offer you a variety of incentives for any donations, big or small, that will help us cover cost of our premises for the coming few months.
We realise how tight money is for everyone and thank you in advance for anything that you can help to support our community cook school. Your help and support during this extremely trying time means the world to us. Please take care of yourself and your family and we hope to welcome you to Kaleyard's kitchen soon.
Thank you,
Kaleyard team
