Help peaceful protester Josh pay for legal costs/fines. Josh will have spent 7 months incarcerated, awaiting trial.
We are looking to raise £6000 to pay for legal fees and court costs for nonviolent climate action resistor Joshua Smith.
Joshua Smith, 29, a bricklayer from Manchester has been in prison since Tuesday 5th July 2022 for being in nonviolent civil resistance against the UK Government for their lack of action on the climate crisis.
Josh will hopefully be released after his court date on February 1st, 2023, by which time he will have spent 7 months in various UK prisons awaiting trial.
He has been doing whatever it non-violently takes to push for action on the climate and ecological emergency using civil disobedience which history has shown is the most effective way to bring about rapid social change. Before he got involved with this important work – he had never been in trouble for anything and has now been arrested 24 times in 12 months. He has sacrificed so much in the last year, and we would like to help him in any way we can.
Josh needs some help to pay for his legal fees and fines. We would like to raise £6000 to help pay for legal costs and court fees. Josh already has a ₤4000 bill from the prosecution who drafted the civil injunctions for blocking the M25. He has 4 crown court trials coming up and more magistrates' trials. We hope to be able to help pay towards a part of these costs.
If you would like to contact Josh, he is currently at HMP Peterborough: contact details here
Any and all help is appreciated
