 New stretch target

Support this campaign to raise funds for Jan Cunliffe the independent Socialist candidate who is standing in the 2024 General Election in the Wigan constituency. Labour under Starmer and the Tories are both the same. Wigan's working people deserve an MP with real socialist principles, policies and ideas.

Fighting elections costs money, and we rely entirely on individual donations, supporters and fundraising to meet the costs of campaigning activities. We ask you to donate what you can. Every little helps.

All monies raised will be given to Jan Cunliffe’s official campaign fund, to be used for her campaign expenses in the forthcoming Parliamentary election in accordance with the Electoral Commission rules.

My name is Jan Cunliffe. I'm standing against Lisa Nandy as an independent candidate in the upcoming General Election on 4th July 2024. I'm a Wiganer who throughout my life has lived in Springfield, Standish Lower Ground, Worsley Mesnes, and Pemberton, I know Wiganers and the area well.

Wigan once had a thriving shopping centre with an equally thriving night life. It saddens me to walk through our  town centre and see some of our iconic buildings either gone or falling into disrepair. I've seen small independent shops open and then close within a year.

I am standing for parliament as an independent candidate of the Left to challenge the local Labour Party establishment, and here in Wigan that means Lisa Nandy. The local Labour Party has taken the loyalty of the support given by our Town for granted for far too long.

If seems that once MPs are elected and in Westminster they forget the reasons why we vote for them. Our Town suffered from de-industralisation under the Tories and when New Labour was elected their policies were so shallow, lacking any real substance that our Town and the North of England in general has yet to recover from.

I've seen protests outside of Wigan Infirmary with locals and unions desperate to save our NHS from the privatisation, both the Tories and the Labour Party played their part and are promising more of the same. The NHS should be cradle to grave not a two tier system that leaves us vulnerable.

I understand what people want from our Town and it's not more of the same. It's not British bombs falling on foreign countries that will leave us with no option in the future but to welcome refugees from war torn lands. I want to represent my community and return faith in principled politics.

I have spent the last decade campaigning on a national platform, meeting MPs in Westminster, but I've always been the outsider looking in. Sitting in the public gallery at the House of Commons watching them debate issues close to my heart. Issues I don't think they even care about. It's time to stop watching and for me to be part of these debates. Debating about the issues that are close to your hearts. Not the interests of big business.

Please donate what you can and share this with friends who share our vision.
Together we can win.

Many thanks. In Solidarity,

Jan
