Hartlebury Old Elizabethans Association – £100

Thoughts from Old Elizabethans, good luck in your endeavours When the school burnt down, many pupils were taught at the castle whilst the rebuilding went on. I believe the Bishop was always on the board of governors when the school was operating and of course it was the Bishop who obtained the Royal approval in 1559. So, although it is not now the official residence of the Bishop, there is a close association between the school and the Castle. Robin Woods succeeded Mervyn Charles Edwards in 1971. He had been Dean at Windsor, hence the Royal connections. There was a photograph in the memorabilia of Ray Fooks, Jim Vernon and Robin Woods meeting Princess Anne when she landed in a helicopter on the football pitch. On the preceding April 1st; the Headmaster announced that the RAF were going to do a rehearsal landing and none of us believed him. It was quite a shock when a police and a convoy of RAF vehicles pitched up and cleared the hockey pitch. The problem with that location was it lifted all the chestnut tiles on the pavilion roof! The.Bishop was on the Board of Governors and came to the opening of the new sixth form block in 1976
