Aim

We need to raise £500 to get Alex Powell elected to Oxford City Council in the 2022 Hinksey Park by-election.

A by-election has been called in Hinksey Park on Thursday 29 September, following the sudden resignation of a Labour City Councillor.

Labour’s sitting Councillor resigned after being selected as a parliamentary candidate for Penistone and Stocksbridge over 100 miles away in South Yorkshire.

The Green Party is fighting to win this by-election, but we can only do it with your help. We don't have the money or the wealthy backers of the other parties. We rely on the kind and generous donations of people like you.

Green Councillors in Oxford are making a real difference. In the last year, Greens have pushed the city council to adopt a pioneering policy on trans rights. Our Councillors have secured a commitment from the Council to roll out a scheme of free period products. And we've been at the heart of efforts to clean up transport - pushing for low traffic neighbourhoods and better active travel infrastructure.

But there's only so much six Greens can do. That's why it's vital more Greens are elected.

In the Green Party no matter how hard we work, no matter how many times we’re proven right, the cards are stacked against us. Our rigged electoral system means Greens have to fight even harder to make the change we want to see. We don’t have the money or the resources of the bigger parties.

That’s why we need you.

The Hinksey Park by-election will be taking place on September 29

Our candidate is Alex Powell.

Alex is a Lecturer in Law at Oxford Brookes University and a resident of Oxford. A dedicated trade unionist, Alex is an active member of the UCU trade union at Brookes.

Alex is passionate about tackling social injustice and inequality both in Oxford and across the country - as well as campaigning for the radical action needed to address the climate crisis.

In May, we came second in the seat, without an active campaign - so this seat is certainly winnable. But to get there we need your support more than ever.

By donating towards our £500 target, you'll play a major role in getting Alex elected to Oxford City Council,

You can help get Greens elected to take real action on the climate emergency, secure a just recovery from coronavirus and fight for public services that work for all of us.

Help turn Oxford Green. Help get Alex Powell elected. Donate today.

P.S. Because we're a political party

  • Please note all donations will go to Oxford City Green Party to help our campaign to get more Greens elected to Oxford City Council.
  • We're required to run permissibility checks on donations over £500. These will be completed as pledges are made. For the same reason, we cannot accept anonymous donations over £500.
  • If you make multiple donations to us, they may be aggregated for our reporting purposes.
  • Your details will appear in our election returns if valued over £500, and if you donate over £7500 your identity will appear on the Electoral Commission website.
