Help cover the court fines faced by three climate protesters sentenced for taking action on the M25 against new oil and gas
“Why does it take young people like me up on a f**king gantry on the M25 for you to listen?"
Louise Harris was just 24 when she said those words from a gantry above the M25. She was one of a number of Just Stop Oil supporters who in November 2022 climbed onto motorway gantries around the M25 to demand that the government halt all new oil and gas licences.
Nearly four years later, Louise and two other gantry climbers have been sentenced. Alongside community payback hours, the three defendants received court fines totalling £2,400.
On the same day the three climate protesters were sentenced at Southwark Crown Court for taking action against the government’s oil and gas policy, Russell Brand and Tommy Robinson also appeared there, each facing separate proceedings of their own. We’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions about what that says about how the law treats climate protesters.
The three defendants acted because expanding oil and gas production threatens the conditions our lives depend on. We are now raising money to help cover the costs of their cases.
Your donation will go towards covering their court fines totalling £2,400. If we raise more than is needed to cover these costs, the surplus will go towards supporting other Just Stop Oil defendants facing similar costs.
