This year, 55 children from our Key Stage 2 choir have the exciting opportunity to undertake a trip to Birmingham for the day to perform at the National Music for Youth Festival. This trip will include an interactive performance with Primary Schools (from across the United Kingdom) in the Symphony Hall, a workshop with leading youth vocal coaches, and a performance on one of the Fringe Stages in the centre of Birmingham.
Falmouth Primary Academy serves a highly disadvantaged area, where 47% of our pupils are eligible for free school meals compared to the national average of 17%. 74% of our pupils live in the most deprived 30% of the country and, as such, have never experienced the sights, sounds and culture of a big city. Whilst they have performed on local stages in Falmouth – during the Christmas light switch on, at the Oyster festival and at the Princess Pavilions, they have never performed in a venue as large as the Birmingham Symphony Hall.
We need to raise at least £2,800 to be able to allow our children to take part in this wonderful opportunity and give them the chance to perform as part of a National festival with other young musicians from across the country. We would really appreciate your help in supporting us in our fundraising appeal - anything that you can donate would be greatly appreciated and will really help to give our children this once in a lifetime opportunity.
