Aim: The war in Ukraine has underscored the devastating impact of dirty money on peoples’ lives. Help us stop the corrupt hiding it in the UK.
The war in Ukraine has shone a spotlight on the deadly consequences of ignoring the UK’s vast dirty money trail. For decades, oligarchs and Russia’s corrupt have all too easily used the UK to flout the law, laundering money stolen from the Russian people.
Our investigations have already identified £1.5 billion worth of property bought by Russians accused of corruption or with links to the Kremlin. Meanwhile, our research has shown how dirty money has spread through the British economy. Corrupt people invest their illicit wealth in high end UK property, spend it on luxury goods and services and send their children to the UK’s top public schools.
Our findings are undoubtedly just the tip of the iceberg. Yet despite this evidence, our government has been slow to push through the necessary laws to put a stop to this.

Transparency International UK is Britain’s leading independent anti-corruption organisation. Our vision is a world where people’s lives, government, business and society are free from corruption, where we can trust the integrity of those in authority and in business and where there is no impunity for the corrupt at home or abroad.
Our work was key to the passing of the UK’s first Bribery Act in 2010 and the UK’s first UK anti-corruption strategy in 2017. More recently we successfully campaigned for transparency over the shell companies that hide dirty money in UK property.
As a charity, donor support has enabled our ground-breaking research, campaigns and work with governments to change the systems that have enabled corruption to take root and hold those responsible to account.
