I am the Green Party candidate for the upcoming Harrow Road council by-election in Westminster on September 19th, and I need your support!
I need your donations to help me reach out to voters in Harrow Road with our vision for a fairer, greener future.
With the cost of living crisis, the climate emergency, and the increasingly polarised political climate in Britain, Green Party policies have never been more relevant to the people of Harrow Road. In the General Election this July, the Green Party came second in the Queen's Park Maida Vale constituency, our best ever result in the area. We also made massive electoral gains across the country, quadrupling our number of MPs, and increasing our number of local councillors to 800+ in May 2024.
My campaign is centred on advocating for social and environmental justice for Harrow Road. I will speak up for local residents and businesses, for cleaner streets, more green spaces and better maintenance of council housing, and I will demand that new developments in the ward provide safe, affordable homes and social housing.
I am calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories. As a party, we fully support the ICC and ICJ decisions to investigate war crimes and issue arrest warrants for the guilty. We call on the UK government to immediately cease arms sales to Israel and adopt a policy of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against Israel.
I have been living in the area since 1998, pursuing a career in finance, and have been involved in progressive politics since my university days. The accelerating climate crisis and the catastrophe in Gaza have driven me to try and make a difference, starting from my local community. I have seen the devastating impact of Tory austerity on key public services such as the NHS, education and public infrastructure, and I am very concerned that the current Labour Government will continue those policies for the next 5 years.
I need your help to spread the word. I want everyone across the ward to know that:
- The Green Party stands for a fairer, greener future;
- We will push for affordable rents, better maintenance of social housing, cleaner streets and a community-based approach to antisocial behaviour;
- There is no climate justice without social and economic justice. We must end austerity now, restore the pensioner's fuel allowance and abolish the two child benefit cap;
- We strongly reject the divisive language of Farage and Braverman which has goaded the far right into racist violence. We stand in full solidarity with immigrants, refugees, and all minority communities;
- The Green Party calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and an end to the occupation.
I need your financial support to cover election costs and maximise voter outreach. To spread our message, we need high-quality literature, which costs money to print. Your donations would go towards producing posters, leaflets and letters, as well as online campaigning. We want every voter in Harrow Road to know there is a real alternative to Labour, and have a chance to use their vote in support of a fairer, greener future.
Any funds raised in excess of actual electoral expenses will be split in the ratio of 75% for future electoral campaigns and 25% for local Harrow Road charities such as food banks.
Every vote counts, even in a council election. We are a party powered by volunteers and donations from our members and supporters. Unlike other political parties, we are extremely cautious about accepting corporate and big money donations, to ensure that we maintain our independence. Every donation makes a difference, no matter the size. If you can’t donate at this time, there are other ways you can help - please share this campaign online, and click here to see how you can get involved!
Many thanks,
Faaiz
