Help Dawn rescue and restore her home, the canal barge Sally Cinnamon.
Our lovely friend Dawn Samples has sadly lost her home, when the canal barge Sally Cinnamon sank on the 3rd July.
*UPDATE: Sally Cinnamon has been rescued!! Sadly after weeks of repeated attempts by an amazing crew at raising her came to no avail. The Canal and River Trust then insisted they took over the job, with Dawn fearing the worst that she would be taken apart to be raised. But they managed to do it all in one piece (with a bill to follow)!
With Dawn's permission I'll add some photos shortly if Sally Cinnamons interior. Everyone has been so kind and generous and it's heartwarming to feel the love and generosity of others. Messages to be replied to soon. *
This is after putting her trust in a man, who wanted to try out living on a canal barge before taking the step of buying his own. Due to his negligent behaviour Dawn received the most devastating call, that her beloved home was at the bottom of the Leeds Liverpool Canal at the boatyard, Riley Green.
Repeated attempts by volunteers at rescuing the boat to bring it to the surface have failed, which leaves Dawn faced with a massive bill to have it raised and lifted out an estimated £20,000! The insurance Dawn has does not cover any of this. She will then need to restore it herself to some kind of liveable standard along with replacing all the belonging that have been ruined.
Dawn has had a lot of offers of help, but not much can be done at this moment, so this is how they can. Again please help Dawn, who has been so kind to others. I know the total amount is massive but anything, a couple of quid here and there, the price of a few pints / coffees, anything will help. Events and treats to follow for those donated! Details to follow and I know she'll want to thank everyone for their kindness individually.
