As you are probably aware, being trans in the UK is very expensive. I am unfortunately now in a position where I need to ask for your help.

Hello I am Clara and if you're reading this you probably know me somehow.
But just in case you don't or if you're bored and want something to read, here's a wee bit about me.

I'm 32 years old, I'm a Taurus and I live in Glasgow with my partner Jasmine and our little Lhasa Apso rescue, Ollie. We love going for walks together in nature and snuggling up on the sofa. 1732204375_img_9237.jpeg

Most of the rest of my life revolves around football. I play for Gender Goals FC, the first and only football club for trans and non-binary people in Scotland and love getting together with my teammates for training and games every week. I feel like I've found my people.

I am also the Vice-President and helped to set up the club in November 2023. After only existing for a few short months I was proud to receive the Football vs Homophobia award for Scotland in February 2024 alongside my fellow committee members and team-mates. It was incredible to receive recognition so early on in the clubs existence for the work that it does and it still feels like an honour to this day that I get to be a part of such a special community.

Anyway that's enough about me, here's why. I've created this crowdfunder:

Support for trans people in this country is extremely broken.

I have been on the waiting list for the NHS Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) since September 2021 and am still nowhere near getting a first appointment as the Sandyford GIC is currently seeing patients who were referred in November 2018.

A Freedom of Information request (source) revealed that there are approximately 1800 people ahead of me on the waiting list and around 22 new people were seen in 2022. At this rate I won't be seen by the Sandyford for another 82 and a half years (yes I did make a spreadsheet to work that out).

As a result of this I have had to proceed with my transition privately which includes paying for all of my own medication as well as gender affirming treatments such as laser hair removal and saving for future surgeries which has cost me almost £5000 in the last year and a half.

Until earlier this year I have been managing to meet these costs on my own as I have been in steady employment as an electrical engineer. However, I had to leave my job of 9 years in May this year after the working environment had turned unpleasant following my coming out. I have since moved jobs twice and I now find myself unemployed again.

I have had to incur large debts to keep my bills paid during periods of unemployment and will soon have to use what savings I had kept aside for facial feminisation surgery (FFS) to keep me going until I can start a new job.

I am confident that I will be able to find a new job soon but with Christmas approaching it is looking extremely likely that I won't be able to start anywhere until the new year which means I will be without any income (except £100/week universal credit) until further notice.

I am embarrassed to be sitting here writing this and asking for your support to help fund my medication costs and rebuild my FFS fund but I am quickly running out of options and feel incredibly desperate.

If you made it this far, I'm incredibly grateful for you reading and would massively appreciate if you are able to donate and share this with anyone who might be able to help me.

Many thanks,

Clara xox
