Aim

To raise funds to build 3 new floodlit netball courts, creating a shared, high-quality facility that supports rugby, cricket and netball.

The countdown is on!

Who are we?

Weybridge Vandals has been part of the local community since 1932, growing from a rugby and cricket club into a true multi-sport hub with thriving women’s sections across all sports. What began as a small group coming together has developed into 19 teams with over 120 active members last season alone, ranging from 10-year-olds through to our newest veterans team, the “OWLs”.

We’ve had a highly successful 2024/25 season, with both our Senior A, B and C netball teams achieving promotion, alongside continued player progression through our junior pathway. Several players have also advanced into England Netball coaching and umpiring qualification pathways, reflecting our commitment to developing talent both on and off the court.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our current netball court is over a decade old, is not floodlit, and is not fit for purpose for our training needs. As a result, we are required to hire external courts across three sites (Salesian, SWPS and St George’s) to accommodate our sessions. We are currently operating at maximum capacity, and the ongoing cost of facility hire limits our ability to invest in other areas of the club.

Locally, the shortage of accessible facilities also means we are unable to meet growing demand, particularly for adolescent girls seeking opportunities to stay active. This restricts access to the many physical and mental wellbeing benefits that sport provides, including confidence, resilience, and community connection.

By creating three courts at Vandals, we would be able to welcome more junior players and expand into additional offerings such as walking netball, Back to Netball, and wheelchair rugby, making our club more inclusive and accessible to all.

The proposed courts will also use modern, water-permeable materials, improving drainage compared to the current non-permeable tarmac. This is particularly important given Desborough Island’s role as a local flood zone.

While the courts will primarily support netball, they will also benefit our wider club, including rugby and cricket, providing an alternative training surface when grass pitches are unusable during winter or wet conditions.

In addition, the new facilities will enhance the experience for families and supporters. Parents will be able to make use of the clubhouse amenities, including the bar and WiFi, while waiting during training sessions, as well as enjoy the wider grounds for walking the dog or spending time in a relaxed, social environment.

The new courts will also allow us to bring junior training together in one location, rather than splitting sessions across multiple facilities. This will improve the overall experience for players, coaches, and families, while strengthening the sense of community within the club.

By reducing our reliance on external court hire, we will be able to redirect significant ongoing costs back into the club. This will enable further investment into coaching, equipment, youth development, and wider club initiatives, supporting sustainable long-term growth.

Finally, this project will allow us to build on the success of our senior netball teams. With our A team competing in the top divisions across Surrey and Kingston, the new courts will provide a high-quality home venue that our players can take pride in, reflecting the standards and ambitions of the club as a whole.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We will create three new floodlit MUGA courts, to which we already have planning permission and backing from the wider club for.

Community impact

This project will deliver wide-ranging benefits across the local community. In particular, it will help encourage more women and girls to take up and continue participating in sport in a friendly, welcoming, team-based environment.

This is especially important given the limited availability of local facilities, many of which are tied to schools and therefore restricted in public access. In addition, the local landscape has seen a reduction in available hire venues—such as Chertsey Recreation Ground—and a shift in some schools toward alternative sports like padel, which can be cost prohibitive for many.

Our new courts will help address this gap by providing accessible, community-focused facilities for a broad range of users. We are also excited to open up opportunities for under-represented groups, including those with reduced mobility through initiatives such as wheelchair rugby. This aligns with our recent improvements to club facilities, including the installation of accessible toilet provision.

We have already raised a significant amount of money through various funding opportunities, but need to raise an additional £50,000 to meet our total goal. To do this, we are looking to you, the members and friends of Vandals. This truly is the last push!

Every single person who donates will see their name on a board on the courts, with the following Supporter Tiers:

£0 – £100 – Friend of the Club

£100 – £250 – Supporter

£250 – £500 – Community Champion

£500 – £750 – Club Builder

£1,000 – Patron

£5,000 - Principle Benefactor

If you would like to ‘name’ a court, post or end, please contact Kev Keaney to discuss a donation amount.
