Help build the new Banook Bagels shop!

Banook Bagels is moving to its permanent home in East Dulwich! Help us transform the space into the 'original South London bagel' shop

Some of you have gotten to know us over the past year, but let us introduce ourselves properly! 

We are David and Ashley, the founders of Banook Bagels. We started Banook in December 2023 with the goal of opening a cafe in south London that would become a neighbourhood space offering something that we felt was missing this side of the river, bagels! 

With no real idea of where to start, we gave ourselves a few months to build a business off of a recipe we developed during lockdown and see if anyone, other than ourselves, wanted bagels in south London. To our surprise, people did! Demand grew quicker than we could have expected and we needed to find a space to move into that would allow us to make more bagels and give Banook room to grow. 

That's how we ended up at our hole in the wall on Latona Road! It was a white box that we could fill with overwhelming professional looking baking equipment and work away in while we looked for a more permanent home for Banook , and, because of its location, we didn't expect to be able to run much of a shop from it but were we ever wrong. 

While we've built something really special at Latona Road, running a business, especially in hospitality, requires steady footfall which we unfortunately do not have in a way that is sustainable in the long term where we are. 

Why we are moving

The move to East Dulwich Road presents increased visibility which will allow us to feel more confident about Banook's future and our ability to provide bagels to our current amazing customers and those to come! The new location will provide more space than what we have now which will mean that we have the opportunity to bake more bagels, expand the menu (we've been waiting a long time to have breakfast sandwiches), and, ultimately, serve more people!

When we decided to start Banook we would always say that we had two primary goals: the first was to create a product that leaves a smile on someone's face; the second was to create a space where someone could be a daily customer or a first timer, and they would both leave feeling like regulars. What we're looking for is your support to help us build a new space where we can continue to do just that!

With your support, we'll be able to invest in some features that will help turn our vision for Banook into reality!

• A meat slicer! Did someone say deli meats? WE DID!!!
• A big yellow awning! London isn't exactly known for its endless sunny days, so we want to install a big yellow awning that will keep you sheltered from the elements while you enjoy your bagels!
• Outdoor tables and seating! We want to create a space for you to enjoy your bagels rain or shine (thanks to that big yellow awning).
• Building costs. Less glamorous but more essential than the above, and full of unforeseen costs. Your support will help us make sure we can keep the build moving as smoothly as it can, meaning you get to sit on a chair at a table under a big yellow awning sooner!
