We need your help to bring the story of Sheffield's legendary Greasy Vera's to the stage and the world!
For over 20 years, Greasy Vera's, a mobile sandwich van, which specialised in the Chegg burger, fed a generation of late night revellers, taxi-drivers, sex-workers and celebrities.

Over the last 6 months, a creative team have developed a script for a stage-play based on the hilarious, evocative, and often moving, revelations of owner John Smith. Now, it is time for this uniquely Sheffield story to be told. Will you help us to put this on the stage in Sheffield this year?
A provisional date has been set for an exploratory performance of the play at a small theatre in Sheffield. However, we need your help to raise the necessary funds to bring the show to the theatre and then take it on the road so it will be seen by a wider audience.
Why Greasy Vera's?
Greasy Vera's had a cult following in the city of Sheffield and the legendary eatery is still talked about today.
A play about an old burger van may sound ridiculous but the story of a group of former steel workers who turned to stripping to survive in the Full Monty was made into a fabulous film and stage drama. The story of love in the streets in the sky, and Park Hill flats has also recently been turned into the multi award winning Standing at the sky's edge with music by Sheffield's own Richard Hawley. The story of the boy from Sheffield who longed to become a drag artist in Everyone's talking about Jamie featured on stage in the West End and on Netflix and also won many awards. These stories were created in Sheffield before being staged at the Crucible and Lyceum theatres. The latter productions celebrated the cultural and diverse melting pot the city has become and at the same time seemed unlikely topics for hit musicals.
Now, a new script by first-time writer and director James Doolan from Sheffield is ready to bring this new story with music to life on the stage.

What's unique about Sheffield?
Is it the world renowned steel industry which includes the invention of stainless steel, a product used in every corner of the world?
Many hugely successful musicians, from the Human League to the Arctic Monkeys and from Joe Cocker to Richard Hawley hailed from the city and Sheffield has a rich football heritage, recognised as the birth place of the modern game.
It is now time for a new story to be told, which is as quintessentially Sheffield as Hendersons Relish, Pete McKee, Jarvis Cocker and Beres Pork Sandwiches.
Will you help us, please DONATE now!
If you made the pilgrimage from the city centre to Neepsend, after a night out, or would just love to see another great Sheffield production on the world stage, please donate to our Crowdfunder appeal.
All donations will enable us to hire actors and a venue to make this show a reality and we will keep you updated on our progress.
