Bonaventure is being threatened with eviction, can't pay his bills or afford food, because of his employer - can you support him?

by St Mungo's Unite in London, England, United Kingdom

Bonaventure, a black member of staff with precarious immigration status, was removed from the locum (part-time) bank - effectively suspended without pay - at St Mungo's over 2 months ago and has been under investigation for over a month now, having been alleged to have fallen asleep on shift. He has worked at St Mungo's for almost two years and it is the first such allegation, having had an impeccable record prior to this. Black and brown members of staff are disproportionately disciplined at St Mungo's compared to their white colleagues, with night workers at greater risk. Night work is demanding at the best of times, due to unsocial hours, low pay and stressful hostel environments.

Senior management originally refused to even allow him to work day shifts. This decision has now been reversed after interventions from Unite, the ARN and his line manager, however, this comes off the back of two months of financial distress.

In the meantime, Bonaventure has been unable to find agency shifts elsewhere and has precarious immigration status, so has no recourse to public funds. He has received no income for the past two months and is currently being threatened with eviction for non-payment of rent. He has also not been able to pay his bills or buy food and is currently relying food banks.

Bonaventure needs our support.
