Aim
I would love to set up my own glass blowing business, but I currently can't afford the tools I need to have before renting a glass studio.
Hi,
My name is Belinda, thank you for taking the time to read all about my fundraiser. I graduated last year from the Design Crafts course at De Montfort University where I specialised in glass blowing and kiln formed glass. At the end of my degree, I applied and was accepted to be the glass Artist in Residence on my Uni course. However, my residency is soon coming to an end and I am trying to find my way in to the creative world to make my own small business and continue making the glass pieces that I love.
To rent a glass blowing studio, all the hot shops that I have looked at ask you to bring your own tools with you to make sure that they are being looked after. Unfortunately, at the moment I can not afford to buy my own set of tools and I am currently using the tools which are provided in the University workshops. To keep my dream alive, I need to raise and save as much money as I can to buy the necessary equipment that I would need to have to continue my passion.
The items which I am currently saving for are:
- Small and large jacks
- Diamond shears
- Trim shears
- Tweezers
- Tagliol
- A range of sizes of wooden blocks
- Blowing noodle
- Large paddles
- Pi dividers
- Cherry sticks
- And finally a day hire of studio time
These are just some of the tools needed when glass blowing, but they are key to making sure that the pieces turn out ok!
