Please help Beacon Swimming Club raise £5,000 to assist offsetting operational costs and recoup lost revenue due to the COVID-19 outbreak

Beacon Swimming Club is a non-profit community-based swimming club, covering the area of East Sussex and Kent (Including Heathfield, Mayfield, Uckfield, Crowborough, Tunbridge Wells and Crawley). The community led club is predominantly Volunteer run and has had a rich and successful history dating back to 1976.

Many of our members have been with us for years and love the family vibe of the club. The club has helped the County and Community with volunteering as demonstrated by the national volunteering award and Commonwealth lifesaving medals/achievements. Our coaching team help support and guide swimmers through learning to swim, training to train, training to win and even further into achieving professional qualifications and long term careers as coaches, lifeguards, swimming teachers, officials and lifesavers.
WE ARE ONE BIG FAMILY!

The club offers a range of coached swimming and lifesaving sessions for all age groups and abilities. We provide a platform for swimmers to train and compete both individually and as part of a team at County, Regional and National levels. As a club we take great pride in our training pathways and the fact we are open to all ages and abilities.

Beacon Swimming Club is open and welcoming to all and as a team will work together to maximise the abilities of each individual while providing opportunities for all to succeed in their goals and so build a vibrant, positive and successful Club.

The club offers a hardship fund to help support anyone that has a passion for swimming that may be struggling to make ends meet. We are one big family and as a club we all work together to achieve outstanding results, teamwork and lifelong friendships.

It was extremely difficult for many of our swimmers back in March when the country was plunged into lockdown. Many of our swimmers who train over 12 hours a week were left without a pool, gym and any social interaction. But as a club we bounced back and battled through it, from virtual fitness sessions, to weekly checkin's, online quizzes, virtual competitions, a Beacon Bake Off, squad socials and of course the #NopoolNoproblem campaign! Our coaching team had weekly meetings to plan sessions to keep all our members active, engaged, connected and fit.

Once the lockdown was lifted in July, the coaching and volunteer team worked endlessly to plan, prepare and make safe all our facilities to allow our swimmers to train in the safest way possible. All of our members were so happy to get back into the pool! It was amazing to see so many smiling faces again :) The coaching team then run a Level X competition to re-engage, motivate and encourage our swimmers, many of which came away with PB's, a renewed sense of enthusiasm and a huge smile on their face. Swimming is more than just a sport, our volunteers, coaches, officials have worked tirelessly all year to help support all of our members both physically and mentally!
The Impact of Covid-19:
The impact of COVID-19 has been huge on swimming, with group sports being suspended for 3 months in the summer, 4 weeks in November and again for many of our swimmers in December, in line with government restrictions.
Unfortunately the club has been unable to run a range of fundraisers, events, club championships, holiday camps and raffles, that usually help support ongoing running costs of the club.
The club and our coaching team have done their best to minimize expenditure and support all our members. The lack of income and increased pool costs due to COVID restrictions mean the club are now seeking financial support to help with its continued operation in the New Year. We have done our best to shield members from severe cost increases with the coaching team even agreeing to a reduced pay rate. We know our members will be there to help support us as we have been with them over this difficult year.

Beacon Swimming Club is predominantly run on Volunteers. As the club has continued to grow and expand, so have our volunteering team. Without them we wouldn't have been able to open our sport up to half as many children and adults in the Kent and Sussex areas. They are the heart of the club and what keeps us functioning so well!

Our Volunteering team have even been acknowledged by National Governing Bodies such as Swim England, the RLSS and the Institute of Swimming. Many of our volunteers have received awards and honours for their dedication and hard work to both swimming and lifesaving as sports. Some of our amazing volunteers have even attended and been runners up in the Sussex Sports Awards.

and even more recently, our very own swimmer Henry Russell Ross won the Young Volunteer of the Year Award (2019).

As a club we like to give back to our community both locally and nationally. We have had members participate and raise thousands of pounds for charities across the UK, helping to improve the lives of people all over.
Whether this is MOVEMBER...

or taking part in charity runs like the RAT RACE, and the Colour Run!

We try and help out where we can! We also try and use our hardship fund to help support as many of our members as possible. Keep up the amazing work everyone!

Rebuilding our Club and Sports England Funding
If we raise 25% of our target from 50 different donations, we can apply for Sports England ‘Active Together’ funding. They match between 30-50% of Crowdfunder donations up to a £5000 contribution, but only if we hit our initial target (£5,000)
If we are able to raise £5000, this funding can be kindly matched by Sports England, providing the club with a cash boost of £10,000. Over the coming months we will be hosting a range of activities such as Crowdfunder prizes, quizzes, raffles and sponsored events to try and reach our goal. Please join in and help our club
Feel free to get in touch, if you are able to offer a reward or have any reward ideas that aren't currently on here.
