The astounding generosity of donors across the world, in 2023 and 2024, meant that the amazing A was able to enrol for their second and third year of university. They are now only months away from finishing third year, and - we hope - graduating in the summer. They've battled through injuries, losses and health difficulties, working as much as humanly possible alongside a full-time degree to pay accommodation and maintenance - and thanks to your kindness last year, there's only a fraction left of their third-year fees to pay. If we could even get them part of the way there on this Crowdfunder, that would be extraordinary.
Here's an update from A, in their own words.
'When we started this crowdfunding, I could never have imagined the kindness and generosity from friends, classmates, tutors, and strangers that would get me to my final year of university. It’s because of all of you that I’ve made it this far, and now I’m just one final push away from crossing the finish line.
I’m in my third and final year of studying English Literature. I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship that covers £10k off my international student tuition fees. Throughout these three years, I’ve worked as hard as I can, balancing my degree with part-time work to make this dream happen. But I can’t close this last gap on my own. My mum supported me for as long as she could, but with her coronary heart disease diagnosis and the worsening economic situation in Peru, she’s no longer able to help financially. My dad passed away from cancer when I was twelve, and I have no one else I can rely on for financial support. As an international student, I’m unable to access government loans. Without paying my third-year fees in full, I won’t be able to receive my degree or graduate.
Thanks to all of you, I was able to stay at university last year, and now I’m asking for your help to graduate. This is our third crowdfunder, and I understand it’s a big ask. I wish I didn’t have to ask again, but I also know that none of this would have been possible without your support. Because of last year’s fundraising efforts and contributions from other sources, the remaining amount is £6.5k. This is just one final hurdle before I can graduate.
Any contribution, big or small, will make a massive difference. I just need £6.5k to finish my degree and be able to graduate. If you can donate or share, I would be incredibly grateful.
A special thank you to Noreen for her unwavering support, creativity, and resourcefulness. And to everyone who has given, shared, or even just read this: thank you. If we reach our goal, I’ll be walking across that graduation stage forever grateful to all of you. -A'
