Aim

Helheim is short film set in the Viking age and tells the story of the Queen of the Underworld, Hel and a young mortal man, Harald.

Description

Hel loves playing merciless games with mortal men's life. When her favorite servant, Harald, crosses the border of Helheim, she sends the young viking to complete one last task for her. The long journeys have already exhausted Harald but the goddess promises him freedom if he is willing to forget about his connection to the human world.

About the project

Helheim is made by independent filmmakers based in Manchester and an amazing cast of local talents. Their goal is to make something different, create a world that you can rarely see in the short film genre. A cold and cruel atmosphere with an evil goddess in the centre. Viking mythology meets realism when a lonely wanderer, Harald, discovers Hel’s land. Their story slowly develops as we learn more about their past and find out why Harald had been serving the Queen for such a long time.

Our cast and crew

Tosca Bell

Tosca has a strong presence which makes her perfect to play the role of the Viking goddess. Apart from playing the part of the Witch in Macbeth, she has acted in Dangerous Woman as Alexa Ryanheart and in Say Two Productions’ project as The Entertainer. https://www.starnow.com/toscabell/

Iain Rodrick

The incredibly talented actor will be playing Harald, a young viking wanderer who travels across the land to fulfill the Queen's wishes. Take a look at Iain's previous work on his vimeo: https://vimeo.com/user57019109

Day Rooney

Aspiring actor and model who has already proved his talent in various roles. Day has been very active lately appearing in a number of feature/short films and music videos. His latest roles include George from The Blind Date, Wes from A Coven of Evil, Sarge from Campus Gas and The Shaman from The Legend of Epicmacro89, an earlier collaboration with Bettina. Besides working hard on screen, Day also attends one of the leading acting schools in the area, Act Up North in Manchester. The Director - Bettina Toth

Bettina is a director and cinematographer who has a strong understanding of visual storytelling. Being a painter and a designer as well, she makes sure the film has a unique look that keeps the viewers focused in every second. She is keen on trying different genres; her previous short film The Legend of EpicMacro89 is a comedy about gaming and life as an 8-bit RPG character. She also worked as a Director of Photography in Joseph Ullman’s Paranoid, a psychological thriller about Jimmy who hears voices in his head. Bettina is currently a student of The Manchester Film School.

What we need

However, we have already covered the cost of costume and make up, we need your help and donation to run our shooting as smoothly as possible. Our cast and crew need to cover travel expenses and food expenses on set. We are shooting for four days and we need energy to do our best. We have collected many props for our set but an upgrade would make everything look even more breath-taking. Also, our production doesn’t finish when shooting’s done; we are sending Helheim to film festivals around the world. These, however, all have submission fees. We rely on you! We’d like to get this to as many people as possible!

We are extremely grateful for every donation from you! The least we can do is to provide Gift Packs for everyone who donates. But if you really want to be part of this project, why not go for a larger amount, and get your on the credits of Helheim. You could even be an executive producer!
