'Heard' is an immersive audio-drama by Anna Semple and Gareth Mattey, sung by the Corvus Consort. This new work is an intimate study of community: what it has meant and what it should mean.
Six singers are the community at any and every time. They are a collective, they are a society, they are a community, but individual voices and people can still be heard among them. They might include: the gossips, the mayor, the refugee, the neighbour, the migrant, the prick, the councillor, the dog, the lumberer, the one who needs help.
It's up to you to decide who is who and whether you want to or not. Above all, each and every one of them is a member of the community.
In this performance we want to disrupt the traditional divide between the concert stage and audience - welcoming listeners into this uncanny land.
The loss of live music during the pandemic has been heavily felt, and we hope this project will reinvigorate audiences, whilst also igniting conversation about what it means to belong, and how we can work towards a more inclusive and tolerant society. We want our event to make a concrete difference to society, as well as providing space and time for discussion, so half of the donations received will go to Refuge UK (https://www.refuge.org.uk/), to help those in our communities that are often overlooking and left unheard.
The event will take place at 8pm on 4th July 2021, Heath Street Baptist Church.
