The Cause
A brain injury can happen to anyone at any time and the effects can be life changing. Around half of our clients’ brain injuries are caused by a stroke. The other half have had traumatic brain injuries caused by road traffic collisions, trips and falls, violence and assaults, or, they have experienced a medical condition such as meningitis, encephalitis and brain tumours. Some of our clients also have vascular dementia which is relatively common after an ABI.
Since the brain controls everything we do, the impact on individuals is diverse. Clients come to us with physical impairments, cognitive issues, memory problems, sight and hearing loss, problems with planning, behavioural issues, changes to their personality, mental health disorders and so forth. The impact on their families can also be devastating as their loved one may not be able to work causing financial strain in the household and often are no longer the person they were before.
Headway Luton is a charity that helps people move forward with their lives. Your donation will help us continue to support current and future brain injury survivors in Luton, Houghton Regis and surrounding areas.
