- Heads up was set up by people with lived experiences and a shared passion to support children suffering from mental health issues. We class ourselves as early interveners, supporting children from a young age to gain the skills they need to manage their menta health more independently.
Heads up supports children and young people mainly aged from 5 to 18 years old who live in the County Durham and Tyne and Wear areas. The children we support have many complex issues and barriers.
Our work helps to ensure they are given the best possible chances in life through the programmes and services we deliver. The children and young people we support have very low self esteem and confidence, poor mental health/mental health conditions, low aspirations/attainment, and are affected by issues relating to poor emotional literacy and communication.
Often, the children and young people have a history of trauma, bereavement and loss. All of these barriers cause severe issues with learning and development, relationship building and trust, behaviours that challenge and feelings of isolation, anxiety and low self worth. We work with children from all backgrounds and situations including cared for children who report suffering from the issues mentioned on a daily basis.
Heads Up deliver regular mental health support, emotional literacy and peer mentoring training programmes to children/young people. We use unique and innovative tools and techniques that we have developed and have used very successfully within our work since 2017, achieving hugely successful long term outcomes.
Any funding raised will go towards this vital and much needed work within the community to better support children who are awaiting our help.
